Har Shalom Players, a theater group associated with the Har Shalom Synagogue in Potomac, will perform “Oliver! the Musical” as their annual production this year. The group is scheduled to take the stage on Jan. 30 and 31.
The musical, one of Britain’s most well-known shows, is based off of Charles Dickens’ famous novel, “Oliver Twist.” With music and lyrics written by Lionel Bart, an award-winning British composer and pop song writer, the show is filled with popular songs such as “Food Glorious Food” and “Consider Yourself.” It follows the life of a young orphan named Oliver after he is kicked out of the workhouse he calls home.
Har Shalom Players, composed of over 60 people, welcomed anyone interested in performing to audition for “Oliver” on Sept. 15. Cast members, including junior Molly Kaplowitz and freshman Scott Kaplowitz, were chosen based on their singing and dancing ability.
The performance on Jan. 30 will begin at 8 p.m. On Jan. 31, there will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. and an evening performance at 7 p.m. To buy tickets, click here.
