Looking for a way to unwind with friends this weekend? Then check out these new out-on-DVD movies:
With a star-studded cast consisting of Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this action thriller follows the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity as they fight against their rival organization, the evil Cobra. The film made millions at the box office, but be warned, this is a must-watch only if you enjoy two hours of gun violence, exaggerated car chases and bomb explosions.
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (R)
In the remake of the 1974 thriller, a New York City subway dispatcher (Denzel Washington) uses his knowledge of the subway system to outsmart a heavily armed gang of four who’ve hijacked a train and held all the passengers hostage. Led by cunning master thief Ryder (John Travolta), the gunmen threaten to kill everyone unless authorities pay them $10 million in an hour. This psychological thriller is sure to keep you glued to your couch up to the very last scene.
Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga star as the adoptive parents of the seemingly sweet Esther, the nine-year-old orphan they adopt to save their failing marriage. But things take a turn for the worse after Esther starts demonstrating some peculiar behavior and completely turns the couple’s lives upside down. Make sure to be with a bunch of friends when watching this because: 1) the film is basically a two hour long bloodbath and 2) after a point, the film has been known to get a bit tedious.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (PG 13)
The blockbuster action-packed movie, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, follows the dynamic onscreen couple and their friend Optimus Prime as they try to prevent Sam (LaBeouf) from turning predator to the Decepticon forces. Although more action than plot value, the film is still an enjoyable watch, even if you’re only seeing it for Megan Fox.
Sandra Bullock’s first movie in years, “The Proposal” is a romantic comedy that follows Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), the young assistant who is forced into marrying his strict, pushy boss Margaret Tate (Bullock) so that she isn’t deported back to Canada. Yes, the film follows a very predictable path and everyone knows what happens in the end, but it’s still a light movie to watch with your girl friends.
