Digital Archive
Welcome to The Black & White’s digital archive, an ever-expanding project. We want to thank the B&W business department and print staff over the last two decades for continuously chronicling the history of the publication and Walt Whitman High School, and thank you as well to the past B&W advisers who have meticulously kept every issue from the program’s founding back in 1962 up until the present day. We will take in any other archival content we receive, and we thank those families and alumni who have been willing to donate to make our cache more robust. The work scanning page by page extends past our reporting duties and is thorough, so work on the archive will continue as time allows.
To Whitman alums, welcome back. The Black & White is now on its 63rd volume, with a staff of nearly 100 reporting each year through five print news magazines and over 300 online articles. We also offer live play-by-play broadcasting through our sports department’s feed The Pressbox, an ongoing B&W exclusive podcast, a YouTube channel and our satire wing, The Rutabaga. The Black & White in recent years has won awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the National Scholastic Press Association, and the Student News Organization, and in 2023, we became founding members of the Students United News Network.
You may view recent years’ print work below, as well as select archival content.
