The fidget spinner is the latest and most popular addition to a growing fidget toy industry, which also includes fidget cubes and thinking putty. The toys’ rise in popularity has sparked controversy over claims from marketers that the toys provide a solution to attention deficit disorders, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism.

Artist spotlight: singer Becky Keteltas

Now a senior, Keteltas is a veteran singer. Her singing career began at age seven when she and her older sister auditioned for roles in their summer camp’s musical. Keteltas continued singing in school choruses and participated in the Whitman Drama program, where she found her passion for music.

Help the Homeless Week recap

The SGA ran the first Help the Homeless Week May 13-20 to benefit local homeless shelters and other organizations. Highlighted by the “Give Us Your Stuff” yard sale and 5k Color Rush, the week generated more than $6,000 for the charities.

Student body elects new SGA executive board

Students elected junior Pablo Rothschild as SGA president, junior Elliot Kelly as vice president, sophomore Celia Shapiro and junior Emma Forde as secretaries and sophomore Alex Herrera as treasurer for the 2017-2018 school year. Voting took place on Google Forms April 26 after students watched candidate speeches April 25.

Students direct one act plays

This dance piece, “Heterophobe,” directed by senior Adrienne Kafka, along with “The End,” directed by senior Carly Choppin, “No Exit,” directed by senior Alex Parsky and “Stand By Me,” directed by junior Kevin Hatcher, made up this year’s One Act Play Festival, performed May 12.
