Boys Soccer Loses Barnburner to Barons

Boys soccer fell to the BCC Barons 3-2, Oct 21, dropping their record to 6-4-2.

The Barons, who came into the game with a 7-2 record, disrupted the Vikings with strong play at midfield and attack. The Vikes were unable to complete consecutive passes and create scoring chances throughout the game.

However, after a Baron defender misplayed a pass, forward Jonny Mehrez was able to take the ball to the goal and finish the play with a strong shot to the outer post to put the Vikes up 1-0.

Only two minutes later, BCC responded with a goal off a service from the midfield.

The Vikings did not properly mark Baron attackers and allowed them to get an open shot on goal.

The Barons had several more chances but were unable to finish open looks at the goal, allowing the Vikes to go into the half tied at one.

BCC came out of the break motivated, scoring a goal seven minutes into the half. Although the Baron attacker was marked, he was able to get off a shot from what seemed like an impossible angle. The ball flew just above the reach of goalie Zack Khalifa and bounced off the upper crossbar into the net.

Ten minutes later, the Vikings equalized the game with a breakaway goal from midfielder Bruno Velloso.

The Barons countered with another quick goal coming only four minutes after Velloso’s.

The Vikes tried desperately for the remainder of the game to set up chances, but they were unable to score. The game ended 3-2 in favor of the Barons.

The boys will play St. Benedict’s on Oct 24, who was recently ranked second in the country by  ESPN Rise.
