The boys’ soccer team defeated the Clarksburg Coyotes in a gritty 1–0 victory.
The Vikes started on the back foot with four starters out of the game injured. This led to the starting debuts for juniors Nathaniel Segal, Lucas Bloomberg and Yinuo Chen. The game started with a dominant performance from the Vikings, who consistently applied pressure on Clarksburg. After a long throw-in from Bloomberg, the ball rattled around in the box, and Chen found the back of the goal with a powerful strike. Whitman then took their foot off the pedal and let Clarkburg gain momentum. After strong defending from senior Noah Bloom and junior Alex Watkins, the Vikes squeaked away with the lead into the half.
After the break, Whitman came out strong and dominated the second half. The Vikings didn’t manage to score a second, but comfortably finished out the game. The victory brought the boys’ soccer team to a 7-2 record.
The Vikes now look ahead to Monday, October 6, as they play Einstein at home at 7:15 p.m.
