The boys’ football team (3–2) took down the Springbrook Blue Devils (0–5) 48–13 on Friday night in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.
The Vikes started quickly as senior Logan Farrell ran it in for an eight-yard touchdown. However, Springbrook responded after a receiver went unmarked for a 40-yard grab to tie the game up at seven.
From then on, Whitman outplayed the Blue Devils heavily. Touchdowns from juniors Jack Wills and John Madikiza opened up the floodgates for the Vikes offense. On defense, junior Malik Shraim and senior Andy Boshnick wreaked havoc in the backfield, having multiple sacks and several tackles for loss. Also, Whitman had three interceptions on the day, coming from senior Adin Friedlander and junior Sam Greenberg.
The Blue Devils ultimately scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but the 13 points they scored don’t accurately reflect how well the Whitman defense played. The player of the game would again have to go to Wills, who had three touchdowns and over 100 receiving yards, dominating the Springbrook defensive backs.
The Vikes will look to continue their success next Friday, October 10th, as they take on the Blair Blazers (1–3) at home at 7 p.m., on homecoming.
