Walkouts planned at Whitman, in DC

Whitman students will participate in a walkout organized by D.C.-area high school students March 14 in D.C. Students staying at school will walk out to the parking lot for 17 minutes at 10 a.m. Both events are in remembrance of victims of the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School in Parkland, Florida, and to call for action regarding guns and school safety.

Students going to D.C. from at least 20 MCPS and D.C.-area schools will meet at the White House at 10 a.m. to commemorate victims, the Facebook event for the county-wide walkout explains. Students will proceed to protest at the Capitol building.

Whitman’s contingent is being organized by junior Zoe Kaufmann and seniors Lauren Eisel, Cameron Newcombe and Rabhya Mehrotra.

At Whitman, students in the bus lane will observe silence to honor shooting victims.
