Boys Soccer Shuts Out Wootton

**By Connor Vergara**

Varsity boys soccer defeated the Wootton Patriots 2-0, Sept. 16, improving to 2-2-1.

The Vikings started the game off strong with scoring opportunities by forwards Jonny Mehrez and Sebastian Cahe, who each came within inches of netting goals.

Although neither team could produce a goal in the first half, the boys were able to score 10 minutes into the second half. Midfielder Sam Lilek took advantage of an out of position Wootton goalie, ripping a shot from outside the penalty box for the goal.

Continuing their offensive attack, the Vikes scored again eight minutes later when forward Sebastian Cahe crossed a ball to forward Scott Gerfen, who was able to finish the play.

Goalie Zach Khalifa led the team defensively. Although he had to come out of the game for several minutes after suffering a minor injury to his hand, he was still able to come up with two key close range saves to prevent the Patriots from getting on the scoreboard.

Defender Dominick Yin took control of the midfield and distributed the ball nicely to his teammates, keeping possession away from the Patriots.

“Tonight was our first solid win,” Yin said. “We were able to capitalize on our chances, something we were unable to do in our other games. It feels great when you can pull through on those.”
