Cross Country state champion Andrew Palmer was honored as the Gatorade Maryland Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, Jan 21. This award is given to runners that prove themselves not only with athletic distinction, but also for academic achievements and role model characteristics. Professional athletes such as Dwight Howard, Derek Jeter, Abby Wambach, Peyton Manning, and Lisa Leslie have also received this award during their high school careers.
The three-time All-Met runner and Syracuse commit was noted in a press release as “a peer leader and youth mentor in addition to working a part-time job at a shoe store.”
