Wrestling continues undefeated season

Varsity wrestling defeated the Wootton Patriots 48-18 and Wheaton 69-12 in a dual meet Jan 28, continuing its undefeated season.

The Vikings controlled the Wootton match with relative ease beyond the first five matches, after which they took control and did not look back.

The meet began with 145 pounder Andrew Follman pinning his opponent to take a 6-0 lead. However, Wootton bounced back with three straight wins at the 152, 160 and 171 weight classes.

Then, the deadly trio of 189 pounder Taylor Leighton, 215 pounder Danny Lee and heavyweight Ned Daryoush won three straigh over Wootton with pins to expand Whitman’s lead to 24-15.

The Patriots bounced back and won the 103-pound duel against Jacob Rosenblum to cut the lead to six: however, the Symington twins at 112 and 119 pounds both won, giving the Vikes a commanding lead.

One Hundred twenty five pounder Ben D’elia won an 18-2 major decision and 130 pounder Eric Harder won a close 2-1 contest which stretched the Vikings’ lead to 41-18.

The Vikes wrapped up their meet with 135 pounder Jordan Tritell winning 9-3 and 140 pounder Michael Harder winning 9-0.

Against Wheaton, 140 pounder Bradley Taylor won 15-0, while Harder and Andrew Follman won by pin and Hysong won 8-2.

However, 171 pounder Rafi Sayada lost by pin bringing the score to 21-6.

Then, the heavyweight line once again won by pins in a combined time of just four minutes and 25 seconds. 103 pounder Jacob Rosenblum was pinned in the third period, but from then on, the Vikes did not concede another point.

The Symingtons along with D’elia won by fortfeit .130 pounder Eric Harder had a 33 second pin and 140 pounder Jordan Tritell finished the meet with a 46 second pin.

The Vikes look to continue their undefeated season when the dual Poolesville and Sherwood on January 30. The meet starts at 1 pm at Whitman.
