Girls volleyball loses in playoffs

Girls Varsity Volleyball lost to the Richard Montgomery Rockets, Nov. 6, 0-3 (11-25, 17-25, 5-25) in the first round of playoffs.

The Vikes started off with strong serves, but the Rockets remained strong with great hits and spikes.

“It was a really sad game for the seniors,” left outside Victoria North said. “This year was really a growing year for Whitman. Next year, we’ll have a consistent coach for the first time in a couple of years. We have great potential to be one of the strongest teams, with seven returning players, and I strongly believe that our record will greatly improve next year.”

The girls finished their season with a 5-10 record, 5-11 including playoffs. Numbers alone, this is a slight improvement from last year’s 4-11 record, but the girls did improve from last year, shutting out Seneca Valley, Einstein and Wheaton, while suffering close losses with B-CC and Northwest.

Meryl Wagman, the new varsity coach, brought her experience and love for the game to motivate the girls, and looks to continue working hard next year.

“Most of the juniors are playing club the rest of the year, so we definitely have high hopes for next year’s team,” North says.
