Winter fashion: Bear the cold and look cute doing it

During the frigid winter months, when morning temperatures rarely reach above freezing, we all have those mornings when finding a cute outfit seems impossible. But the addition of some common, classic pieces to your winter wardrobe can vastly simplify the task of getting dressed, while keeping you warm at the same time.

1. Chambray Shirt: Give your favorite jeans a break and throw on a denim shirt instead. A loose-fitting shirt paired with leggings, boots, and a pretty scarf looks put-together and will keep you comfortable. You can also experiment with layering by pairing a chambray shirt with a t-shirt or tank.

2. Ski Sweater: A sweater with a winter-themed print is just as comfortable as your favorite sweatshirt, but infinitely more festive. Try layering it with a button-up (or your new chambray shirt) for a more polished look. Any local thrift store will have some this time of year for an agreeable price, but act fast. If new clothing is more your style, H&M has an expansive and inexpensive selection of festive sweaters.

3. Cute scarf with a purpose: A knitted infinity scarf in a neutral or rich winter hue can add fashion and function to nearly any outfit. If you plan on wearing it indoors, make sure you get one that isn’t too thick and warm.

4. Sweater leggings: Like number 2, except for your legs. Check any local Forever 21 for an assortment of options.

5. Fleece lined tights: Don’t put all your skirts and dresses away for winter! A pair of fleece-lined tights will allow you to wear those pieces even when temperatures drop. While normal tights can’t fend off the cold winter air, fleece-lined tights will keep you cozy and fashionable. They come in footed and footless varieties at low prices at a number of stores, including Target and Forever 21. And on the coldest days of winter, try wearing these tights beneath a pair of jeans or leggings for ultimate warmth.

*Bonus tip: To avoid the cringe-worthy sensation of putting on cold jeans after reluctantly removing your soft, warm pajamas, try leaving your jeans by the heater overnight. They will be toasty warm, and it will make your morning much more pleasant.
