Detectives continue to look for information about the suspect who shot former Whitman parent Ashoka Mody in his garage Oct. 8.  County police said that they are not sure what the motive was, and have not ruled anything out.

County police are offering up to a $36,000 reward for information leading to the shooter.  The large sum of money comes from an anonymous donor who gave the Montgomery County crime solving team $35,000 to use as a reward.

Ashoka Mody continues to make progress towards a full recovery, but remains in the hospital, according to police spokeswoman Lucille Baur.

Facts of the shooting remain unclear, including the gender of the shooter, who opened the car door before Mody was shot, whether the shooter was waiting in the garage or slipped in after Mody drove in, the motive of the shooting and who the shooter is.

Mody’s wife, Jyothsna Mody, read a prepared statement to reporters last Friday asking those with information to come forward.

“Our family is traumatized, very confused and shaken by the event,” Jyothsna said.  “Please, I appeal to all of you to come forward with any tips that you can possibly remember or recall to help the police nail down the assailant.  This is really important because this is my home, our home.  This is my community, and we all want to be safe.”

Police found a mask on Mody’s driveway that they assume the shooter pulled off as he or she ran away.  They are also investigating a small, dark-colored car that was on Millwood Road the evening of the shooting with its lights off, according to a police statement.

The shooter was last seen fleeing towards Goldsboro Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call 866-411-TIPS and will remain anonymous.
